Understand sheet-managed stores and edit limitations

What this article helps you do

Understand how stores synced from Google Sheets work in Mapstore and which fields you can edit in the dashboard versus which must be changed in the sheet.

Before you start

Step-by-step instructions

1. Identify sheet-managed stores

  • In Stores, sheet-managed stores are marked as sourced from Google Sheets.
  • The sync runs on a schedule and overwrites certain fields from the sheet.

2. Which fields are controlled by the sheet

  • The sheet controls core data: name, address, phone, email, filters, and any columns you mapped.
  • When you change these in the sheet and sync runs, Mapstore updates the store to match.
  • Edits you make in Mapstore to those fields will be overwritten on the next sync.

3. Which fields you can edit in Mapstore

  • For sheet-managed stores, almost all store fields are read-only in the store form.
  • Product assignments remain editable, so you can still link products to those locations.
  • Check the store form: if a field is disabled, edit it in Google Sheets instead.

4. When you need to fix sheet-managed data

  • To correct name, address, filters, or other sheet columns, edit the Google Sheet and wait for the next sync (or trigger a manual sync if available).
  • Do not rely on editing those fields in Mapstore; they will be overwritten.

5. Switching a store to manual management

  • If you need full control over a location, remove it from your sheet-managed workflow and recreate/import it as a non-sheet store.
  • In the Stores list, you can remove synced stores and disable sync, then re-add stores manually or by CSV.

How to verify it worked

  • Edit a sheet-controlled field in the Google Sheet and run a sync - the Mapstore store updates to match.
  • Edit product assignments in a sheet-managed store and save - those changes persist.
