Configure map behavior (loading, sorting, filters, directions)
What this article helps you do
Control how the store list loads, how stores are sorted, whether storefront filters are shown, and how location and directions behavior works.
Before you start
- Mapstore is installed
- You have access to Settings in the Mapstore admin
Step-by-step instructions
1. Open Mapstore settings
- In Mapstore, go to Settings.
- Open the Map section.
2. Choose a loading strategy
- Paginated: Stores load in pages (30 per page). Better for larger catalogs and faster initial load.
- By map viewport: Stores load based on the part of the map the shopper is currently viewing. Stores without coordinates will not appear in this mode.
- Pick the option that fits your store count and performance needs.
3. Set sort order
- Choose Default sorting for the storefront list.
- Current options are Updated (newest first), Updated (oldest first), Name (A-Z), Name (Z-A), and Row order.
- Pinned stores appear first for the selected sort order, except when you use Row order.
4. Configure search and location behavior
- Set ZIP search radius (km) to control how far away stores can be for ZIP or postal-code searches.
- Turn on Sort by distance if you want shopper location to affect result order when location access is allowed.
- Turn on Ask for user location on load if you want Mapstore to request location as soon as the page opens.
- Set User location zoom to control the zoom level after a shopper shares their location.
5. Adjust directions, filters, and map interaction
- Choose Directions link method: coordinates, address, or Google Place ID.
- Turn on Show filters if you want each store’s filters to appear below the store name on the storefront.
- Turn on Disable scroll zoom if you want shoppers to pan the map but use controls to zoom.
How to verify it worked
- Save your changes in Settings and open the store locator.
- Check that stores load as expected (paginated or by current map viewport).
- Confirm sort order matches your setting.
- If you changed directions or location settings, test them on the storefront.
Common issues and fixes
| Issue | Fix |
|---|---|
| List feels slow with many stores | Switch to paginated loading to improve performance. |
| Some stores disappear in viewport mode | Stores without valid lat and lng do not appear when using By map viewport. |
| Location-based behavior not working | Shoppers must allow location access for distance sorting or auto-location features to work. |
| Sort doesn’t match setting | Save Settings, refresh the storefront, and check whether pinned stores are intentionally appearing first. |
