Replace existing CSV-imported stores safely
What this article helps you do
Understand what happens when you replace existing stores during a CSV import and how to do it safely.
Before you start
- You have imported stores from a CSV or Google Sheets before, or you have manually added stores
- You understand that the checkbox in Mapstore is labeled Delete existing stores uploaded through CSV
- You have a backup or copy of important data if needed
Step-by-step instructions
1. Understand the Replace existing stores option
In Stores -> Bulk, when you upload a CSV (file or URL), you can check Replace existing stores.
- Unchecked: New stores from the CSV are added to your existing stores. Existing stores stay.
- Checked: Existing CSV-imported stores are deleted, then stores from the new CSV are imported.
2. When to use replace
Use replace when:
- You want to replace only your previously CSV-imported stores with a new CSV
- Your CSV is the single source of truth and you want Mapstore to match it exactly
- You’re switching from another locator and your new CSV has all current locations
3. When to avoid replace
Do not use replace if:
- You are not sure your new CSV contains every CSV-managed location you want live
- You’re not sure the CSV has all the data you need
4. Run the import with confirmation
- Prepare your CSV and go to Stores -> Bulk.
- Choose File or URL mode.
- Check Replace existing stores.
- Click Upload.
- A confirmation modal appears. Read it carefully.
- Click the confirm button to proceed. Existing CSV-imported stores are replaced by the new CSV.
How to verify it worked
- After import, check Stores to confirm the list matches your CSV.
- If rows were skipped, review the summary and fix the CSV before replacing again.
- Test your store locator on the storefront.
Common issues and fixes
| Issue | Fix |
|---|---|
| Accidentally replaced stores | There is no undo. Re-import from your CSV or restore from a backup if you have one. |
| Expected CSV stores are missing after replace | Check whether they exist in your new CSV. Replace removes old CSV-imported rows and imports what is in the new file. |
| Some rows skipped | Fix the CSV (add name and address to all rows) and run the import again. |
