How to Add a Store Locator to Shopify

Updated 2026-09-27

To add a store locator to Shopify, install a store locator app, add your locations, and add the app's map block to a page in the theme editor. Then link the page in your menu. With Mapstore, this takes about 5 minutes. It needs no code and no Google Maps API key.

What You Need

  • A list of your locations with a name and address for each one. Phone numbers, websites, hours, and photos are optional.
  • Permission to install apps in your Shopify admin.
  • An Online Store 2.0 theme, such as Dawn.

Step 1: Install a Store Locator App

Open Mapstore on the Shopify App Store and click Install. Mapstore is free for up to 5 locations, and every plan includes every feature. After you install it, open Mapstore from Apps in your Shopify admin. The setup guide on the Mapstore home page links to each step.

Step 2: Add Your Store Locations

Choose the method that fits how you manage your store list:

  • One at a time. In Mapstore, go to Stores and add a store. This works best for a few locations.
  • CSV file or CSV URL. Go to Stores → Bulk and upload a CSV file with name and address columns. Add lat and lng columns if you have them. Click Test CSV to preview the import before it changes your stores.
  • Google Sheets. Connect a published Google Sheet. Mapstore syncs it up to 5 times a day at the times you choose, and you can sync manually at any time.

Mapstore turns each address into map coordinates, so you do not need a Google Maps API key. Read how to choose an import method for details.

Step 3: Create a Store Locator Page

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Pages and click Add page.
  2. Enter a title, such as Find a Store. Shopify uses the title for the page URL, such as /pages/find-a-store.
  3. Click Save.

To show the map only on this page, give the page its own template. In the theme editor, open the template menu at the top, select a page template, and click Create template. Then open the page in Online Store → Pages and select the new template in Theme template.

Step 4: Add the Map to the Page

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store, find your current theme, and click Edit theme.
  2. Open your store locator page template.
  3. Click Add section, open Apps, and select the Mapstore Map block.
  4. Click Save.

The map shows your active stores right away. Shoppers can search by address, use their current location, filter stores, and get directions. See Add Mapstore to your theme for more detail.

Step 5: Match Your Brand

In the theme editor, open App embeds and turn on Mapstore Style Settings and Mapstore Text Settings. Use them to change colors, font sizes, spacing, button states, and every storefront label. In Mapstore, choose a map design and add custom pin markers.

Step 6: Add the Page to Your Menu

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Content → Menus.
  2. Open your main menu and click Add menu item.
  3. Name the item Find a Store and link it to your store locator page.
  4. Click Save menu.

Add the same link to your footer menu, so shoppers can find it from every page.

Optional: Show Store Availability on Product Pages

If only some stores carry each product, assign products to stores in Mapstore. Then add the Product availability block to your product template. Shoppers see which stores carry the product, with business hours and ratings. Read how to show product availability by store.

A Google Maps embed shows one map with no store list, search, or filters. A custom locator gives you full control, but you must maintain the map, the store data, and the search code yourself.

Store Locator Best Practices

  • Use a clear page name, such as Find a Store, and link it in the header and footer.
  • Show hours, phone numbers, and directions for each store.
  • Add filters when you have different store types, services, or brands.
  • Keep store data current, for example with Google Sheets sync.
  • Test the store locator on a phone, where many shoppers use it.
  • Add a lead form for searches that find no store, so you can see where shoppers want you next.
  • Review search analytics to see where shoppers look for stores.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Shopify have a built-in store locator?

No. Shopify does not include a searchable store locator for your online store. You add one with an app from the Shopify App Store or with custom code.

How much does a Shopify store locator cost?

Many store locator apps have a free plan for 1 or 2 locations, and Mapstore is free for up to 5 locations. Paid plans usually cost $7 to $70 a month, depending on how many locations you have.

Do I need a Google Maps API key for a Shopify store locator?

Not with Mapstore. The map, search, and geocoding work without a key. Add your own Google API key only if you want to show Google ratings and opening hours.

Can I add a store locator to Shopify without an app?

Yes. You can paste a Google Maps embed into a Custom Liquid section, or have a developer build a custom locator. An embed has no search or store list, and a custom locator needs a developer to build and maintain it.

Where should the store locator go on my Shopify store?

Put it on its own page, such as /pages/store-locator, and link that page in your main menu and footer. You can also show store availability on product pages.
